Other than the 24 beta and the 22.1 test release, all the beta and test releases have been removed from Google Code to reclaim as much space as possible, but the changesets are still there if you really want them and know the particular rev to check out from the Mozilla Mercurial repositories. Starting with 24.1 beta (hopefully available by the end of next week), downloads will be offered through SourceForge, and Google Code will be offered the finger. Issue tracking and the wiki will remain here for the time being.

17.0.10 available, for the last time
17.0.10, the final release of 17, is now available from the Downloads tab (release notes). Use the 17.0.9 changesets to build it. Most everyone should know this by now, but there will be no further releases of 17 barring something cataclysmic between this and 24.2. 17 was a solid ESR. I'm sad to see it go. Assuming no reported issues, it becomes final as usual on Monday evening Pacific time.

Sorry but I have no idea what the two paragraphs above are talking about. I've been through TenFourFox G5-1 up to TenFourFoxG5-14, now, and all I've done is download the new version, quit the old version, and then launch the latest version. What's a changeset? What's ESR mean? Is SourceForge a website? I get a popup window when a new version is available, and I usually start using it in a few days.
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean 24, not 14 (14 was some time ago). Anyway, you're doing all that you need to do. The only change you will notice is that for 24.1 and later versions, you won't be downloading them from the previous repository we maintained at Google Code, because Google Code isn't letting new downloads on starting in January. Instead, you'll get them from SourceForge; you just follow the prompts and download it like you've been doing. That's all.
DeleteTo answer your other questions: ESR refers to the Firefox Extended Support Release, which is the special version of Firefox that we use to build the stable releases of TenFourFox (10.0.x, 17.0.x and now 24.x). The ESR turns over every seventh version. Changesets refer to overlays we offer for download to apply to the Mozilla Firefox source code so that people can build their own browsers. If you just use the compiled browsers we offer and aren't interested in that, you don't have to worry about it.
Thanks for your kind response. However, when I mouse over the icon in the dock, it says "TenFourFoxG5-14". When clicking on "about TenFourFox" from the dropdown, it says I have "Version 17.0.10". So no, I didn't mean "24". When I click "check for updates", I get a popup that says there are no updates available at this time. I have Mac OSX 10.4.11, on a 1.9 Ghz PowerPC G5. I'll wait to see a popup that says there is a new version of TenFourFox that I am urged to start using.... :)
DeleteI guess the -14 must just be whatever name your Mac saved it under. Anyway, you're doing it right. When the next official release comes out, you will get the popup just like you always have.

ReplyDeleteI have been using v17 for a while now on my Dual G5 Powermac and all is fine. Have 17.09 installed.
I see that 17.10 is the last of V17 and that v24 will be the new solution.
Is v24 still a beta or like v17.10? The reason I ask is that I have used v17 as its the most up to date Browaser for PPC which I find important when using online Banking and just Online shopping. I feel that the security will be far higher than say PPC Safari v5 and many other PPC browsers that don't get updated any longer.
Should I stay with v17.10 for a few months or is v24 the safer option?
Lastly where can I download v24? And will all updates be on your website in the future?

24.2 is coming out, come heck or high water, in December and will replace 17. You are welcome to try it now, but I'm delaying 24.1 a bit while I try to do a little more work on a menu freeze bug. All updates will be on the website, so if you're interested in simply sticking with the stable branch, you can just watch for changes there.

Delete24.1, 24.2, etc. The third digit will only be incremented for chemspills and such between releases.
