38.2.1 is available

TenFourFox 38.2.1 is available (release notes, hashes, downloads). Due to the fact this is a chemspill and we're already delayed, it will become live by this evening. Other than the Mozilla fixes, issue 306 is also repaired. Further work on 38's MP3 support is being deferred until the replacement hard disk arrives (should be early next week).

Don't forget to test 38.2.1 with incremental GC disabled. See the previous post. Enjoy our new sexy wiki, too. Sexy. Yes.

  1. My G5 Tenfourfox 38.2.1 like 38.2 has problems with page and font rendering PDF web pages in comparison with Safari Leopard Webkit.

    See for example

    1. Open a ticket on Tenderapp with a screenshot, please.

  2. I am using 38.2 version on G5 as well. For some reason Linkedin.com web site is troublesome and will crash browser if the last of several tabs to open. I am guessing the amount of calls to render the page for Linkedin takes resources and interferes with rendering or updating on other pages. Loading Gmail is similar but not as bad as Linkedin in this way.

    1. I need consistent steps that reliably trigger the browser either all or most of the time, or I won't be able to tell if I've fixed anything. If you have such steps, open a Tenderapp ticket with them.

Although I don't use LinkedIn, I use Gmail frequently, and haven't seen anything of the sort.

  3. Currently testing mp3 support, works great on several German public radio sites, and just disabled GC, no problems so far ...

  4. When I disable incremental GC I see no difference at first after re-starting the browser, but seem to get more beachballs than usual after a while. (But regard this as anecdotal, please, as I have no way to test this systematically.)

  5. That's just it: there's no good way to systematically test this. It may entirely be a function of the sites one visits and how many tenured objects they generate, so that's why I want as many samples as possible.

    1. Chris: Ok, switching incremental GC on again confirms (for the stuff I visit, anyway) that I'm better of *with* it.

PS. I deleted my Google account and will be commenting from my wordpress account henceforth.

  6. For me, disabling the session timeout helped with appearance of beachball delays. Generally runs smoother as I observed. However, I am one who leaves on computer 24/7 and the browser is only quit occasional to refresh. I have scripted the operation of my Mac for off peak operations such as multiple remote backups and light housekeeping. Not always perfect but it works for me.

  7. I was seeing beachballs, too, appearing every 15 minutes or so and lasting about 20-30 seconds, but after a few days the problem has subsided. I still see beachballs, but they're more the 5-10 second variety.
