8.0 now release

8.0 is now converted to release. Watch for 9 pretty soon; the port will start once Mozilla has certified the first beta.

I note with interest that Flash Player 11 requires 10.6 -- my 10.5 Intel mini could not update to it. (I'll put 10.7 on it eventually and grit my teeth for those few tasks I have that require an Intel Mac -- mostly Android development and Eclipse. 10.5 runs happily in VirtualBox.) So in not too long we will probably see Adobe abandoning 32-bit Intel Macs as well as PPCs on Flash; all the more reason to eliminate dependencies upon it.

  3. WOAH! This feels even more faster and smoother than 7! Definitely less processor-intensive, something that was a bit of a problem in the last release, but that may have also been a fault of plug-ins. This has definitely improved, though, so keep it up! :D

  4. I don't seem to be getting any problems with the address bar freezing either, which was an annoying glitch.

  6. I dispute the claim that TenFourFox JavaScript is faster than Safari. The link below uses JavaScript to plot a 7,000 point FTSE-100 chart. On a 733 MHz G4 TenFourFox displays the page in 14 seconds and Safari displays it in 7 seconds.

I had to use Safari to post this! - I had a Google account but this was my first post to Google blogs.

  7. You do realize that such a test doesn't just evaluate JavaScript speed, but the entire browser stack. That's why we have JavaScript benchmarks.

Safari does update and display graphics and pages faster. This isn't exactly news; it's always been faster at that than Firefox and TenFourFox.

  8. LOL And yet, TenFourFox is WAAYY faster than the last PPC Safari in real-world use. No comparison.

  11. Love what you guys are doing. I'm running a G5 from 2003 and Firefox crashed every 4 minutes. Now I'm running your browser and it works flawlessly. I'm an Art Director in the New York area. If you guys ever want to redesign your logo for this browser, please let me know. I'd be happy to help. Thanks!

  12. How come CorePlayer for OS X isn't on any torrent sites?

  13. loving the quicktime enabler on youtube, though I do get a frequent error in quicktime that says "movie cannot be opened as it is not a movie file", selecting the stream a second time always allows the file to play. This is not a complaint, I just thought I'd mention it.

@Johnson CorePlayer for MacOS X is clearly no longer actively being developed by mobihand, which has moved 100% into the mobile space. It's probably not been torrented as it has a very limited appeal to PPC luddites, crumudgeons and conversers like ourselves who do not feel then need to update perfectly decent hardware every three years. And, it's actually worth the twenty bucks.

Call me crazy but I actually like the 10.4.fx logo.

  14. @Dwayne, I'm always open to ideas. E-mail me directly (don't send attachments yet though).

@Dave, I see that too from time to time and it might just be glitchiness from YouTube. I'm not sure how I can mitigate it.

  15. @Fergus, no idea. I'm running it just fine on my quad G5.

  17. Thank you for TenFourFox 8. It runs very well on my Leopard and Tiger.

We have released SuperTuxKart 0.7.3. And there is also a dmg for old ppc Macs. It runs from Mac OS X 10.3.9 Panther or higher. Download: http://sourceforge.net/projects/supertuxkart/files/SuperTuxKart/0.7.3/supertuxkart-0.7.3-osx-panther-ppc.dmg.zip/download

  18. Hey, thanks for the link to SuperTuxKart. It's a fun game. It's a pity it's so unstable.
