My wife would have an aneurysm if I ever dropped that much cash on workstation without some sort of plan to recoup the money. What do you plan on running on that beastie besides benchmarks, if I may ask?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15611157290876766173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1015214236289077798.post-81251961508148692562018-04-30T09:55:51.870-07:002018-04-30T09:55:51.870-07:00Curious, When you get an OS loaded please put a c...Curious, When you get an OS loaded please put a clamp probe on it and see what real-world amperage draw is. Looking to replace a Dell R720 with one of these and have the Dell trimmed out to around 2 amps @ 122vacNallshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09522983965363659718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1015214236289077798.post-82290182568300577592018-04-29T17:10:32.034-07:002018-04-29T17:10:32.034-07:00Oh, definitely. I just have to get the damn video card working on Xorg first (and turn off those fans!).ClassicHasClasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17331846076856918359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1015214236289077798.post-3806980859783187302018-04-29T11:06:14.230-07:002018-04-29T11:06:14.230-07:00Dear Cameron,

Those LAME MP3 Encoding benchmark results at Phoronix are such a disgrace.
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=power9-epyc-xeon&num=3

It would also be great to see POWER9 compression/crypto co-processor support arrive in OpenSSL. Hopefully affordable workstations like this will make that happen.

Best regards from Hungary!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1015214236289077798.post-8774702364151262952018-04-28T08:32:08.049-07:002018-04-28T08:32:08.049-07:00AN UNBOXING!!! Not sure I'd want the electric bill from such a device, but is very impressive. A few good leads on Linux Distros would can be found on https://www.youtube.com/user/InfinitelyGalactic/videos?disable_polymer=1

Solus and Kubuntu's new K-Desktop are very nice. Also, most all the new systems support Snap and Flatpack that do away with Linux arch-enemy "Dependency Hell". Hard to say if Power9 will be getting these, but if so, they are a great option.artphotodudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14625170205541427471noreply@blogger.com
